What is a Lottie file — and why convert it?

Lottie is a JSON-based animation format exported from After Effects (via the Bodymovin plugin) and design tools like Figma and LottieLab. It renders as crisp vectors at any size and stays tiny — but it only plays where a Lottie runtime exists. Email clients, Slack, PowerPoint, GitHub READMEs, video editors, and most CMSs can't play a .json animation.

That's what a Lottie converter is for: turning the animation into a format the destination understands. GIF plays everywhere; MP4 and WebM are right for social and the web; APNG keeps smooth alpha transparency; animated SVG needs no runtime at all; a PNG sequence or sprite sheet drops into game engines and video tools. Private by architecture, not by promise

Most online converters upload your file to a server, render it there, and hand you a download. Lottieto doesn't: rendering and encoding run in your own browser using your device's processing. Your animation never leaves your machine — which is why there's no file-size billing, no queue, and no account. Which format should you pick?

GIF for email, Slack, and maximum compatibility. MP4 for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and video editors. WebM for the smallest web video — with real alpha transparency. APNG for full-color animation with smooth transparency. Animated SVG when you need vectors with zero JavaScript.
